About Made for More

Made for More, an initiative by OneHelix, transforms disadvantaged young people in Greater Manchester. We provide structured career pathways, hands-on training, and personal development to tackle regional deprivation and skills shortages.

Our vision is to build future-ready individuals who drive social and economic progress through meaningful apprenticeships, mentoring, and community engagement.

The Challenge

Greater Manchester faces high levels of deprivation. Many young people from marginalized backgrounds struggle to access good jobs, role models, and community support due to poor education results.

They encounter chronic unemployment, limited opportunities for skills development, and weak support networks. Local businesses also face skills shortages and difficulty connecting hiring to community needs.

The Made for More Apprenticeship Programme addresses these challenges with a comprehensive model combining employment, personal development, and community impact.

Recruiting young people from under-served communities into meaningful, paid apprenticeships within OneHelix and partner companies.

Combines on-the-job learning with formal college study and regular mentoring for professional qualifications.

How It Works: Our Unique Model

Recruitment & Selection

Identify high-potential 16-24 year-olds from underserved communities using cognitive aptitude testing, partnering with schools and community groups.

Apprenticeship Placement

Paid work experience in technical and operational roles with experienced mentors, alongside structured college study for formal qualifications.

Mentoring & Support

Regular one-to-one coaching, peer support, and trauma-informed care with individual development plans.

Community Impact

Weekly charity and community service placements to develop social awareness and practical problem-solving.

Progression & Scale

Scaling apprenticeships to other local employers, creating a pipeline of diverse, skilled, socially-conscious talent.

Participants set personal, professional, and community targets, tracked throughout the program for measurable progress. Our trauma-informed approach builds resilience and confidence.

10-20 apprentices. Baseline data & impact framework established.

Years 2-3: Scale

50-100 apprentices. Refined methodology, advocacy & demonstration.

Standalone charity. UK-wide licensing. Target: 3,000 apprentices, £240M economic uplift.
